New research by the Nation’s Favourite Coffee Shop*, Costa Coffee, has revealed British workers start getting that Friday ‘Fri-YAY’ feeling on average at 3.51pm and begin the wind down from work and start preparing for the weekend. And of those who work from home, 65% agreed that they still get a Friday Feeling!
Unsurprisingly, out of the 2,000 British adults surveyed** who work Monday to Friday, over a third of respondents identified Friday as their favourite day (38%) of the working week, with those cited saying it was because it signifies the official start of the weekend (48%).
Other reasons Fridays came out on top included looking forward to lie-in at the weekend (29%), getting to go out on a Friday evening and not worrying about having to work the next day (24%). And almost a quarter saying they looked forward to having a break from work and not having to deal with work emails and calls (25%).
Whether working from home or in the office or a bit of both, people reported general mood improved on a Friday, which may explain why people don’t switch off on average until 3:51pm on a Friday. Over a third (35%) said that “people are generally happier” and more sociable on a Friday (28%) than the rest of the working week. The good vibes don’t stop there as nearly a third of those polled also said they felt more productive (28%) and keen to finish outstanding tasks (33%).
Despite feeling happier, those who work on Friday’s expressed emotions that they felt relief the week was over (34%) and a quarter (25%) said they felt tired. Additionally, over a third admitted to doing less work on a Friday (32%) than the rest of the week. Don’t worry, we won’t tell!
What’s more, of those who work on a Friday, 43% viewed Friday as a ‘treat day’, with a quarter of those popping out to treat themselves to a coffee (23%) or grabbing a cake or a doughnut to get through an afternoon’s work (18%).
