India has its own microcosm of mobile phone brands, representing both feature phones and smartphones. Let’s take a look at the best brands of mobile phones in India today:
It is only in the past few years that Intex has made a name for itself, but it’s been at it for quite a while now. The company was established all the way back in 1996 and since then has gone on to establish itself as one of India’s leading producers of mobile phones, tablets, televisions, air conditioners and even smartphones. It is also one of the biggest players in terms of sales volume when compared to other brands from India. While you might not have heard of many Intex products, you’ve likely used some in the past.
The company’s first big splash into the mobile phone market was with its initial Aqua range of feature phones, which came complete with a full set of multimedia features like camera and music player. This kicked off a whole series from Intex that has continued to this day and it has developed an excellent reputation for delivering good value at very affordable prices. One such example is the Eco Beat A8 smartphone, which is priced at just Rs.4,500 and offers a decent set of features for the price. Intex also has some very good smartphones in its Aqua range like the Power 5+ and Power 4G+, as well as some high-end Android options such as the Aqua Supreme series, which includes top models like the Aqua Grand Prime Plus that come with dual cameras.
Lava Mobiles was established back in 2009 by Hari Om Rai, who has more than 20 years of experience in the industry. As you might expect from a brand established in 2008, MTS offers a rather wide range of devices. It also has a team of over 5,000 employees and the company recently launched its first 4G LTE smartphone in India called the Android One-based Nova 3i. Its low-cost offerings include the Duet series as well as the Blaze series. The company has also produced a number of feature phones including the Rockstar, Turbo and Striker models with price tags under Rs.2,000.
Nokia was established back in 1865 as an independent Finnish company based out of Nokia, Finland. It is responsible for producing Nokia-branded smartphones and tablets that are sold in over 80 countries around the world. HMD Global is responsible for developing Nokia-branded feature phones to be sold in Asia, Europe and Africa.
Sony Mobile India was established in 2001 and it has a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility that covers an area of approximately 12,000 square metres. It is the exclusive manufacturer of Xperia mobile phones for Sony Corporation and it is responsible for producing smartphones as well as tablets for the company around the world. The latest phones from Sony come packed with some excellent features including high-end specifications and stunning cameras like those seen on models like the Xperia XZ1.
Xiaomi was established back in 2010 by Lei Jun, who is currently its chairman and CEO. It is one of China’s leading smartphone companies as well as one that sells its products at very affordable prices. It has a number of manufacturing facilities around the world and it is responsible for producing handsets in India as well, including smartphones like the Redmi Note 5 Pro, which offers a great set of features at just Rs.13,999. The company also makes excellent budget devices such as the Redmi Y1 Lite that comes with dual cameras for just Rs.6,499.
Vivo was established back in 2009 and it is one of the fastest growing smartphone brands in terms of market share. It produces smartphones using the most advanced technologies available including optical fingerprint sensors, edge sense screen technology and AI Beauty Recognition software to enhance selfies. The company recently launched its flagship X21 series of smartphones, but it also has some very good mid-range options such as the V7+ and V5 Pro.
Oppo was established just a few years ago in 2004 by a group of engineers who were working on mobile phones for the Chinese market. Now Oppo is one of China’s leading smartphone manufacturers in terms of sales volume and its products are sold across more than 140 countries around the world. Oppo is responsible for producing some of the best smartphones in terms of camera quality and it has a number of offerings in India including low-end models like the Oppo A57 to flagship devices such as the Oppo F7.
Samsung is the leading smartphone brand in India and it has been at the top for several years now. It recently launched its flagship Galaxy S9+ and Note 8, but it also offers a range of excellent mid-range devices such as the J series, C series, A series and more. The latest budget device from Samsung is called the Galaxy On7 Prime that comes with dual cameras, Full HD display and much more at an affordable price tag of just Rs.10,990.
